DIY Scarecrow Door Hanger for Fall Décor
Ahh, fall is right around the corner and I’m gearing up to begin decorating! I can’t wait for pumpkin spice everything and cooler weather! A great way to start your fall décor designing is a little love for your front door. After all, your front door is what your guests see before walking into your home, right? I’m going to show you how I made a scarecrow door hanger to spruce up my fall décor!
One of my friends sells paintable wooden door cutouts. I buy my cut slab of wood from her, and then I paint it how I want it. This has become a quite popular trend over the past year.
I knew I had to get one of her wooden door hangers to begin decorating, but was so torn on which one to get! So, like most of my projects I began scouring the internet looking for ideas, and came upon a scarecrow door hanger that I loved and the wheels started turning in my head.
To begin, I penciled in where I wanted my hat to go and the collar. I painted the face (which I wish I would have done a slightly darker, more scarecrow color). I did the background of the hat and the color. Then added my stripes for the plaid and the polka dots for the hat.
Once I finished painting, I hot glued strips of straw for the “hair”. I had some left over from a Scarecrow Halloween Costume.
There were some sunflowers laying around the house that I had used as décor for another project so I hot glued my burlap deco mesh behind it to make it stand out a little more.
Overall I’m happy with how it turned out! We get so many compliments over our door hangers and this one is a favorite!
